Captain “Roy” Garza is a retired Texas Peace Officer with over 30 years of law enforcement experience (03/01/92 to 08/31/23). Roy started out his career with the San Juan Police Department in 1992. In 1997 Roy became a Texas State Trooper and rose through the ranks as a K-9 handler, Highway Patrol Sergeant, Narcotics Investigator and ended his career as a Texas Ranger. Roy knows that he had a successful career in law enforcement, but could not wait to return to his true love for the sport of saltwater fishing. In 2009 Roy obtained his captain’s license and started guiding for “Get-Away Adventures” in Port Mansfield, Texas. In 2010 Roy and his wife moved to Port Mansfield where Roy could pursue his passion for fishing. Captain Roy has been guiding out of Port Mansfield, Texas since 2010 and has a diverse knowledge of fishing for red fish and trout in the Lower Laguna Madre. Although Roy loves fishing with lures, he is also setup to utilize live shrimp, pin fish and croaker. Captain Roy will also venture offshore to search for Texas state red snappers, king fish, cobia, black fin tunas and groupers. On good calm sea days Captain Roy will search for deep drop species like golden tile fish and groupers. Captain Roy has many great stories and life experiences that will entertain you while underway or fishing. Captain Roy is confident with the core values he has learned in his law enforcement experience and is willing to share his dedication to the sport of fishing.
